How to Install IPTV on iPhone, iPad & Apple TV (2026)

Apple makes IPTV simple. There is no sideloading to wrestle with and no developer settings to flip — you install one player from the App Store, log in with your details, and you are watching on iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Below is the exact process for each device, the player we recommend, and the two or three things that trip people up so you know what to do if it does not work the first time.

What you need before you start

The whole setup takes about 5 minutes. Before you pick up your phone or the Apple TV remote, have these three things ready:

  • An iPhone or iPad running a current version of iOS / iPadOS, or an Apple TV running tvOS — connected to the internet and signed in to the App Store.
  • Your IPTV login. This is either Xtream Codes details (a Server URL, a Username, and a Password) or a single M3U URL. You only need one of the two.
  • About 5 minutes and a stable connection — ideally 25 Mbps or more for smooth HD and 4K.

On Apple you install only from the App Store

Unlike a Fire Stick, Apple devices do not let you sideload apps or turn on "unknown sources" — every player comes from the official App Store. That is simpler and safer (nothing to download from a random link), but it does mean fewer player choices than on Android or Firestick. The good news: the one we recommend below is free and covers everything you need.

Where do I find my login?

Your Xtream Codes server, username, and password (or your M3U URL) arrive by email right after you subscribe. If you signed up with us and cannot find them, check your spam folder first, then see our plans page to re-request access. Keep that email open — you will copy these details into the player when you log in.

The best IPTV app for iPhone and Apple TV

The best IPTV app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV is Smarters Player Lite. It is free, it is on the App Store for all three devices, and it works with both Xtream Codes and M3U logins. We recommend it specifically because the full IPTV Smarters Pro app — the go-to on Firestick and Android — is not reliably available on Apple's App Store, whereas Smarters Player Lite is. It looks and behaves almost identically, so you are not missing much.

A few solid alternatives exist if you want to shop around:

  • Smarters Player Lite — free, the easiest pick, and the one this guide uses. Available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
  • GSE Smart IPTV — a popular, feature-rich free player on iOS and tvOS; a little busier to navigate but very capable.
  • Other App Store players — a handful of paid players add a nicer TV guide (EPG) or extra polish. They are optional; Smarters Player Lite already does the job for free.

If you are weighing up players across all your devices — not just Apple — we break down the strengths of each one in the best IPTV player apps. For Apple specifically, though, you can safely start with Smarters Player Lite and move on.

Install IPTV on iPhone and iPad

Installing on an iPhone or iPad is exactly like installing any other app — open the App Store, search, and tap Get. There are no settings to change first.

  1. 1

    Open the App Store

On your iPhone or iPad, tap the blue App Store icon on the home screen.

  2. 2

    Search for the player

Tap the Search tab (bottom right), type Smarters Player Lite, and tap Search.

  3. 3

    Tap Get to install

Select the app in the results and tap Get. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password if prompted. The download is small and finishes in seconds.

  4. 4

    Open the app

When it finishes installing, tap Open (or tap the new icon on your home screen). Leave it on the login screen — you will fill that in below.

Install IPTV on Apple TV

The Apple TV (tvOS) has its own App Store, so the process is the same — just driven with the remote instead of a touchscreen.

  1. 1

Open the App Store on tvOS

From the Apple TV home screen, open the App Store (the blue icon). It is separate from the iPhone App Store but works the same way.

  2. 2

    Search for the player

Go to the Search tab and enter Smarters Player Lite using the on-screen keyboard. Type carefully with the remote — it is easy to fat-finger a letter and miss the result.

  3. 3

    Install it

Select the app and choose Get / Install. Confirm with your Apple Account if asked. When it finishes, select Open.

Hate typing with the Apple TV remote?

When the on-screen keyboard appears on the Apple TV, your iPhone or iPad usually pops up a notification offering to type for it. Tap that, and you can use the phone keyboard to enter the app name (and later your login details) far faster than clicking letter by letter with the remote.

Log in with your IPTV account

Open Smarters Player Lite. On first launch it asks how you want to log in — the screen is the same on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Pick the method that matches the details in your email.

Option 1: Xtream Codes login (recommended)

  1. 1

Choose Login with Xtream Codes API

On the login screen, select the Xtream Codes API option (sometimes labelled "Login with Xtream Codes").

  2. 2

    Type any name

Enter a label you will recognise, for example Kickoff26 TV. This is only a name for the playlist — it does not have to match anything.

  3. 3

Enter your Server URL, Username and Password

Copy the Server URL, Username, and Password exactly from your email. Watch capital letters and the http:// at the start of the server URL — one wrong character will block the login.

  4. 4

    Add and wait

Select Add user / Next. The app loads your channel list, which can take 10–60 seconds the first time. Do not close it while it loads.

Option 2: M3U URL

  1. 1

Choose the M3U / playlist option

On the login screen, select Load Your Playlist or File/URL (the M3U option).

  2. 2

    Paste your M3U URL

Enter a name, then type or paste the full M3U URL from your email. It usually starts with http:// and ends in .m3u or .m3u8.

  3. 3

    Confirm

Select Add / Next and let the playlist load. The result is the same as the Xtream method — your channels, movies, and series appear.

Set it up like a proper TV

Once you are in, the player groups your channels into Live TV, Movies, and Series tiles. Turning on the TV guide (EPG) and tuning the layout is covered in the setup guide, which walks through the same login on phones, tablets, Apple TV, and other devices.

Fix common issues

If something does not work, it is almost always one of these three. Work through them in order before assuming anything is broken.

The app does not show up in the App Store

If a player does not appear when you search, it is usually a region thing — App Store availability varies by country, and a particular app may not be listed in yours. Try one of the alternatives above (GSE Smart IPTV is widely available), and make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the correct Apple Account. Any standard Xtream Codes / M3U player will work the same way once installed.

No content after login

This is the most common one, and it is almost never the device. An empty channel list after a login that looked successful points to your account details, not your iPhone or Apple TV. Check, in this order:

  1. 1Re-type your Server URL, Username, and Password carefully — a single wrong character (or a missing http://) is the usual culprit.
  2. 2Confirm your subscription is active and not expired. An expired line logs in but returns nothing.
  3. 3Make sure you used the correct method — Xtream details in the Xtream login, an M3U link in the M3U field, not mixed up.

No content after login = credentials, not the device

Deleting and reinstalling the app will not fix an empty channel list. The problem is the login details or an expired subscription on the server side. Fix those first — see the question below on why there is no content after you log in.

Channels play but keep buffering

If channels load but stutter or freeze, the install is fine — this is a network or stream issue, not the app. The quickest wins are moving closer to the router (or using 5GHz Wi-Fi), closing other apps, and lowering the stream quality in the player. For the full checklist, read our dedicated guide on fixing buffering.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the best IPTV app for iPhone?

Smarters Player Lite is the best IPTV app for iPhone for most people — it is free, it is on the App Store, and it works with both Xtream Codes and M3U logins. GSE Smart IPTV is a strong free alternative if you want to compare. Both are just players: they display the IPTV service you log in with and do not include any channels of their own.

Is Smarters Player Lite free?

Yes. Smarters Player Lite is free to download and use on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. You only need an active IPTV subscription to plug into it — the app itself is just the player that displays your service.

Why is IPTV Smarters Pro not on the App Store?

The full IPTV Smarters Pro app that is popular on Firestick and Android is not reliably listed on Apple's App Store, and its availability can change over time. On Apple devices the recommended equivalent is Smarters Player Lite, which is free, available across iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, and works almost identically. If you cannot find one app, any standard Xtream Codes / M3U player will do the same job.

Can I use IPTV on Apple TV?

Yes. The Apple TV (tvOS) has its own App Store, so you install a player such as Smarters Player Lite directly on the device and log in with your Xtream Codes or M3U details — exactly as you would on an iPhone. There is no sideloading involved; everything comes from the App Store.

Why is there no content after I log in?

An empty channel list almost always means a typo in your Server URL, username, or password, or a subscription that has expired — not a problem with your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Re-enter the details exactly as they appear in your email, confirm your plan is still active, and make sure you used the matching login method (Xtream Codes details in the Xtream login, an M3U link in the M3U field).

Do I need to jailbreak or sideload anything on Apple?

No. Apple devices do not require — and do not support — jailbreaking or sideloading for IPTV. You install a player straight from the official App Store and log in. That is the only supported route, and it is simpler and safer than the unknown-sources method used on a Fire Stick.
